Admitted Transfer Students
Already admitted? Congratulations!
As a transfer student, you’re an important part of our campus community. We want you to start your transfer on the right track. You probably have a lot of questions about your next steps. Review the acceptance letter that has been emailed to you with your next steps.
Activate Your Admitted Student Account
Now that you’ve been admitted, many of the steps on this checklist will require you to access your admitted student account. To begin, follow the activation steps at IllinoisState.edu/Activate.
You’ll need your University ID (UID), which is included in your acceptance letter that was emailed to you.

Once you've activated your account, take your next steps at My.IllinoisState.edu, where your personalized to-do list will be updated with your relevant requirements.
Apply for Financial Aid
Your first step is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available beginning December, and we encourage you to complete it as soon as possible for full consideration. Financial aid offer letters will be sent during the month of April for summer/fall students and the month of October for spring students if the FAFSA and all requested documents have been submitted.
Our student employment fairs and ISU Jobs online database make it easy to find employment—a great source of additional financial support.
Register for Classes
Your advisor will help review how your credits transfer and register for classes.
You will receive an invitation that explains how to schedule an appointment with your advisor.
Need to Take a Math Placement Assessment?
Your Illinois State academic advisor will help you determine whether you need to take the assessment. Before you register for a math class at Illinois State, you must either take the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment or complete an appropriate prerequisite course with a grade of C or better.
Submit a Housing and Meal Plan Contract
If you are transferring to the University within two years of high school graduation, you must live on campus. You should complete your Housing contract as early as possible for an opportunity to select your room and roommate.
Students living on campus must purchase a meal plan. Meal plans are optional for off-campus students.

Research Transportation Options
Parking permit information is mailed to students who live in the residence halls or university-owned apartments. Off-campus students can also purchase a commuter parking permit.
You don't necessarily need a car. Students ride free on Bloomington-Normal's Connect Transit system, including the Redbird Express that runs daily across campus.
Finalize Your Admission File
Send your final college transcript(s) to the Office of Admissions before classes start. If you’ve earned an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree, make sure the degree is posted on your final transcript.

Learn about Health Insurance
All full-time students must have health insurance coverage. The University offers a health coverage plan that is included in your tuition/fee costs that either supplements existing family coverage or serves as primary coverage for students with no other insurance.

In early August, you'll receive instructions in your University email on how to complete your campus technology orientation.
